Gavin Keeney: Knowledge, Spirit, Law: a Phenomenology of Scholarship
Seminar on challenges of contemporary (academic) publication practices
THE LECTURE SERIES
This lecture series will prepare PhD students, researchers, and scholars for the challenges of contemporary (academic) publication practices: how to meet their requirements, understand their underlying principles, successfully navigate among them, and maintain the Intellectual Property rights of both authors and their home institutions. The lectures will develop alternative, new-old methodologies for the production and dissemination of high scholarship - or, timeless speculation in humanistic and artistic disciplines.
The primary goal is to enable the creation of working practices that would creatively indulge and/or transgress all of the various issues gathered today under the rubric of "Digital Humanities" - that is, "scholarship as work of art" and "art work as form of scholarship". The seminars are primarily geared toward developing an antithetical, "experientially based" research methodology regarding author rights and alternative publishing platforms. Particular attention will be given to the topics of digital humanities, pre/post-digital publishing, and intellectual property/capital.

THE LECTURER
Gavin Keeney is an editor, writer, and critic with a rich experience in the publishing industry. He studied at Cornell University, received his PhD in Architecture at Deakin University, Australia, and has worked with Rizzoli and Cambridge Scholars Publishing. He has taught and lectured in universities in the United States, Canada, England, the Czech Republic, and Australia. His most recent publications include: Art as "Night": An Art-theological Treatise (2010); "Else-where": Essays in Art, Architecture, and Cultural Production 2002-2011 (2011); Dossier Chris Marker: The Suffering Image (2012); and Not-I/Thou: The Other Subject of Art and Architecture (2014).
