Extending the Dialogue - book launch in Vienna

30.03.2017

30 March 2017, 6-8 pm, ERSTE Foundation, Am Belvedere 1 (Erste Campus), Vienna

Together with ERSTE Foundation we cordially invite you to the presentation of the Extending the Dialogue book with Maja Fowkes and Reuben Fowkes, Jelena Petrović, Urška Jurman, and Christiane Erharter.

The book includes essays by Igor Zabel Award Laureates, Grant Recipients, and Jury Members (2008–2014) and offers a collection of urgencies and agencies in art history, art writing, and art and cultural production in Central, Eastern and South-eastern Europe.

Budapest-based art historians and curators Maja Fowkes and Reuben Fowkes will present their research exploring the history of post-war Eastern European art, environmental art history, and the relationship between art and ecological thought with the focus on the potential of contemporary art and the legacy of the Eastern European neo-avant-garde as part of the collective response to global environmental threats. They contributed to the book with the text “Cracks in the Planet: Geo-ecological Matter in Eastern European Art”.

Jelena Petrović, a feminist scholar, art theorist, and curator, currently appointed as the Endowed Professor for Central and South Eastern European Art Histories 2015-2017 at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, will - as an ‘outside insider’ - present her comment on the book.

The book will be introduced by the co-editors Christiane Erharter (curator and project manager at the ERSTE Foundation) and Urška Jurman (editor, curator, programme manager of the Igor Zabel Association for Culture and Theory).
