On this day, ten years ago, Igor Zabel – art historian who since 1986 worked as a curator at the Moderna galerija in Ljubljana – passed away. The objective of the Igor Zabel Association for Culture and Theory is to work with the heritage of Igor Zabel, who was active also an theoretician, writer of short stories, literary and art critic, translator, and mentor for new generations of curators and critics.

After publishing an English edition of his texts: Igor Zabel: Contemporary Art Theory (2012, JRP Ringier) our association continues with translating and publishing Zabel's texts. Association's important objective is also to work upon Zabel's archive as well as to put his work in a dialogue with current questions and phenomena in the field of contemporary art, curatorship, art history and theory.

In the year 2016 we will host in Ljubljana the 5th edition of the Igor Zabel Award for Culture and Theory. The Award is being organized in collaboration with the ERSTE Fundation since 2008 and acknowledges the achievements of cultural protagonists whose work is dedicated to deepening and broadening internationally the knowledge of visual art and culture in Central, Eastern and South Eastern Europe.
